Drilling Mechanics

The tools to identify and predict risks potentially leading to downhole equipment damage and bit wear

Borehole drilling is an inherently risky undertaking – a complete understanding of the downhole environment is vital as a means of ensuring wells are drilled safely and that current and future hazards are mitigated against.

Drill string vibration is an unavoidable consequence of drilling boreholes and, if left undetected, can cause catastrophic equipment and well bore integrity failures. Our dedicated Drilling Mechanics module uses high frequency data acquisition to provide real time detection of torsional and axial vibration. Drilling efficiency is accurately computed from the Mechanical Specific Energy (MSE) using automatic free rotating period detection.

The Drilling Mechanics derived data is readily available anywhere in the world, in real time, to the end user through the SkyView remote monitoring service.
